Wireless Mac OS X Printing without VPN Access
TSO provides a CUPS print server that allows authenticated Samba/Windows printing on Mac OS X to CoC networked printers from anywhere including Inland, Outland and LAWN.
How to Add a Printer:
- Open up Apple System Preferences.
- Click Print and Fax.
- Click the + sign in the lower left of the Print and Fax window to add a printer.
- Control click the toolbar of the new window and select Customize Toolbar.
- Drag the Advanced menu button to your Toolbar.
- Click Done.
- Click the new Advanced menu button in the Toolbar.
- Wait a few seconds for the Advanced window to load fully.
- Use the following settings:
- Type: select Windows in the drop down menu.
- Device: use the default.
- URL: type smb://ccprint.cc.gatech.edu/printer-name (where printer-name is the name of the printer).
- Name: type printer-name (via ccprint).
- Location: type the building and room number.
- Print Using: choose Select a Driver to Use.
- Search for the printer model of the printer of the printer you want to use (e.g. HP Laserjet 2420). You can check the print server (http://printhost.cc.gatech.edu) if you don't know the model.
- Click Add to continue configuring the printer.
- An Options window will pop up. If it's a duplex printer, check the duplex button. You probably ignore the rest of the features.
- Click Continue to add the printer.
How to Print
- From Mac OS X application, choose File/Print (or Apple-P).
- Select the printer you just added.
- Click Print.
- A pop-up window will appear asking you for your CC Windows Domain user account and password. Use the following settings:
- Connect As: Registered User.
- Name: cc\your-user-name (where your-user-name is your CoC account name).
- Password: Use your CC Windows Domain password.
- Click OK.
- You can follow the progress of your print job in the Mac OS X print status window that will appear in your Dock.
