From Personal Laptops (Unix) on LAWN:
- Users should consult the documentation for their particular OS and use the following information to define a queue:
- Queue Name: queue name of the user's choice
- Location: lpd://gt-printq3.ad.gatech.edu/COCblack
- Printer driver: use either a generic postscript driver or the PPD driver here.
- When a print job is sent to that queue, it must be sent with the GT username. In order to do so, there are two options:
- Users may make a new user account on their
computers that matches their GT username.
- Users may use the lpr command to define the exact username to send a job as, avoiding the need for a new user account. An example of the lpr command to accomplish this is shown below:
lpr –P COCblack -U <GT Account> <document to print>
Note that the use of lpr may not be usable, or require additonal steps, in some situations. An example would be printing a page from within Firefox. Printing directly from Firefox would not work using option 2. A workaround would be to save the page to a file and print it with lpr.
- Log onto the release station with your GT username and password.
- Select the print jobs you wish to release to the printers.
- Swipe your BuzzCard on the keyboard.
- Select Print
- Print jobs will remain in the print queues for 2 hours before they are purged from the queue.
