From Personal Laptops (Unix) on LAWN:

  • Users should consult the documentation for their particular OS and use the following information to define a queue:
  • Queue Name: queue name of the user's choice
  • Location: lpd://gt-printq3.ad.gatech.edu/COCblack
  • Printer driver: use either a generic postscript driver or the PPD driver here.
  • When a print job is sent to that queue, it must be sent with the GT username. In order to do so, there are two options:
  1. Users may make a new user account on their computers that matches their GT username.
  2. Users may use the lpr command to define the exact username to send a job as, avoiding the need for a new user account. An example of the lpr command to accomplish this is shown below:
    lpr –P COCblack -U <GT Account> <document to print>

Note that the use of lpr may not be usable, or require additonal steps,  in some situations. An example would be printing a page from within Firefox. Printing directly from Firefox would not work using option 2.  A workaround would be to save the page to a file and print it with lpr.

    • Log onto the release station with your GT username and password.
    • Select the print jobs you wish to release to the printers.
    • Swipe your BuzzCard on the keyboard.
    • Select Print
    • Print jobs will remain in the print queues for 2 hours before they are purged from the queue.
