WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
After a lengthy review process performed over the past year as well as the growing need for open collaborative spaces, and the ubiquity of student laptops within the CoC, the College will be making the following changes to the current instructional lab resources:

1. States Lab (CCB 103) will be reduced to 25 dual-boot Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Windows XP Professional workstations, available to all CoC faculty and students, as well as any Georgia Tech student enrolled in a CS class. Please note that due to the change in the States Lab configuration, instructors will no longer need to request access for this lab.

2. Thin Client Lab (CCB 130) and Baird Lab (CCB 107A) will be eliminated to provide space for specialized instruction for CoC classes.

3. Digital Media and Gaming Lab (CCB 107) will remain the same with 20 dual-boot Mac OS X and Windows XP Professional high power workstations available to faculty and students taking CS courses that specifically require access.

4. Academic Remote Access (ara.cc.gatech.edu) will remain a web-accessible Remote Desktop dual OS environment providing remote desktops of the States Lab software configuration, minus graphically intensive applications. This environment is available to all CoC faculty and students, as well as all students enrolled in a CS course, excluding CS1371 and CS1372.
