OIT has announced the following maintenance.  No end user impact is expected.  Application owners who have not yet tested their applications against the new certificates should do so according to the instructions below prior to the maintenance period.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?
GTED (Georgia Tech Enterprise Directory) will be Changing SSL-certificate providers for r.gted and rw.gted (from Verisign to Incommon). This should not cause an outage due to load balancing capabilities.

Application owners have been previously asked to test their applications against the new certificates.

WHY?
Better implementation scale and cost savings.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 6:00 am until noon.

WHO IS AFFECTED BY THIS INTERRUPTION?
If your applications have not been tested yet against Incommon certificates, you might be affected. Wand/Mage changes, Passport password resets, GTRI password resets, and GRS role changes should not be delayed.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO WHEN THE SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE AGAIN?
Business as usual.

Preparation:
Most have tested already, but if you have not, then please test your software against the new Incommon certificates at r-test.gted.gatech.edu port 636
(instead of r.gted.gatech.edu and rw.gted.gatech.edu ).   Report any problems.
Return your configuration to r.gted.gatech.edu or rw.gted.gatech.edu.  If, for some reason, the certificate authority (CA) is not in your  trusted root store for your client, then you can add it from here:

https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCCollaborate/InCommon+Cert+Types#InCommonCertTypes-SSL%2FTLSCertificates

More background reading can be found at: https://www.incommon.org/cert/demos/

HOW DOES THIS ACTIVITY BENEFIT YOU?
This is a routine maintenance activity.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
If you have concerns about the scheduled time for this service interruption, or if you still have questions, please contact your departmental IT support staff, or the OIT Technology Support Center at 404.894.7173.
