WHAT’S HAPPENING?

TSO and OIT will be upgrading the firewall code for the College of Computing firewall pair.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

May 5th, from 8PM to 12AM

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?

As recommended by Palo Alto technical support engineers, firewall code will be upgraded from version 8.1.10 to 9.0.6 to address several bugs and enable additional features.

WHO IS AFFECTED?

During the maintenance window users may experience brief networking outages when connecting to College resources. TSO and OIT will be upgrading the code as follows to minimize network downtime. First the code on the secondary (passive) unit will be upgraded and the unit reloaded. Then the secondary unit will be made active, and the primary unit passive. The primary will then go through the code upgrade process and reload. Once the primary unit is operational, it will be made active again. The firewall pair is configured for high availability, so we expect any resulting network outage to be very brief (less than a minute, as one unit fails over to the other).

Affected services: College of Computing networking services
