UPDATE:
Late in the day on Monday, September 17, 2012, some Exchange users may have noticed a message that stated something similar to, "Trying to connect to autodiscover," and may have been prompted for their password. Autodiscover.cc.gatech.edu is safe to run and will periodically show up when server changes have been made. However, the password prompt usually only appears if a user's account is locked out. In this case, GTRI was performing some preparatory work which inadvertently caused the message and password prompt to appear for some users.
