WHAT'S HAPPENING?

The OIT Network Team is performing a gateway router migration on Saturday, March 9th from 12:01am - 4:00am.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

Start Time: 12:01am, Saturday, March 9th
End Time: 4:00am, Saturday, March 9th
Expected Completion: OIT expects a couple of intermittent outages lasting 10 minutes each during the maintenance window.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
GaTech's current gateway routers (Juniper MX960s) are 12 years old. OIT needs to upgrade to new routers (Junipers MX304s) which have a higher port density and are less costly to maintain. The increased port density will allow us to add more redundant links which should reduce downtime during future maintenances. The new routers also have NetFlow which will allow us increased monitoring and traffic reporting capability. Additionally, the MX304s are 400gig capable. Over the next couple of months, OIT plans on conducting a second maintenance where we will upgrade our internet connections from 100Gbps to 400Gbps.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
These gateway routers handle all traffic to/from the Internet from campus. Any users on campus accessing the Internet during this maintenance will be affected. This maintenance will not affect any intra-campus traffic.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Up-to-date progress updates will be provided on Georgia Tech's IT Status Service page, status.gatech.edu. After the maintenance is complete, individual users may visit services.gatech.edu to report any issues believed to be related to this maintenance.

WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
