WHAT?S HAPPENING?
All TSO core critical services will be unavailable, including DNS, Active Directory, LDAP, home directories, and the main web sites for CoC, CS, CSE, and IC.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
For 12 hours on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
There will be a two-day power outage in KACB on Saturday, January 8, and Sunday, January 9, 2011. The work involves preventive maintenance of the KACB main electrical switchgear, a safety practice the campus Facilities group follows for all buildings every five years. Work will begin at 7:00 AM and complete at 5:00 PM each day.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
All users of CoC networks and core services and those working in KACB. During this maintenance, all power to building outlets and lights for all rooms will be generally unstable and at times unavailable. The lack of the TSO core critical services will cause all other computing servers, services, desktops, web sites, etc., on the CoC network to become generally unstable, including systems in CCB and TSRB.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Affected users should save their work and logout prior to the maintenance period. Those with systems in KACB should shut them down before leaving for the weekend. If this maintenance will cause undue hardship, please let TSO know by emailing helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu.

WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
TSO Help Desk (CCB 148, 404.894.7065, helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu).

UPDATE:
The power maintenance was not completed until 7:00 PM. However, all maintenance was completed on January 8, so there will be NO power maintenance on Sunday, January 9, 2011.

Following the maintenance, one of the Exchange email servers had to be taken out of service to be rebuilt. This will result in reduced email/calendaring performance for CoC faculty and staff Exchange users during the next several hours until the server can be brought back online. If Exchange users are having issues with their email client, it's recommended to try restarting the client or to use OWA (https://ccmail.cc.gatech.edu).
