Since approximately 7:10 AM, Tuesday, March 17, 2009, the LAWN authentication page has been unavailable to users in CCB and KACB. This affects all wired and wireless LAWN users in those buildings. OIT has been notified, and they are working on the problem. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Update: OIT identified and corrected the problem, a static route that was lost following a router upgrade. TSO tested LAWN as working in CCB at 9:50 AM, March 17.

Subject: Unplanned LAWN Service Interruption Aftermath - Service has been restored

WHO WAS AFFECTED BY THIS INTERRUPTION?
Half of our campus LAWN users on the GTwireless network were unable to
connect to the network.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Users were showing a connection to GTwireless and were getting a valid IP
address, but they could not connect to any site. They were not getting
the LAWN login page in order to authenticate.

HOW LONG WAS THE SYSTEM DOWN/SLOW?
The problem stemmed from the scheduled maintenance on one of the Eastnet
routers this morning at around 6:00am. The issue was fixed at about
9:40am.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO NOW THAT THE SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE AGAIN?
Should be business as usual; however, some users may need to restart their
web browser or their entire system.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
If you still have questions, please contact your departmental IT support
staff, or the OIT Technology Support Center at 404-894-7173.

TECHNICAL DETAILS ABOUT THIS UNPLANNED SERVICE INTERRUPTION
Our LAWN support staff was able to determine that the 808 VLAN was
affected when the new Eastnet1-router was brought online during this
morning's maintenance, but it was missing a static route in its
configuration. The problem was corrected around 9:40am.
