Login Outage on CoC Linux Systems

WHAT HAPPENED?
User login access to CoC Linux systems was unavailable.


WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?
Between approximately 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2012.


WHY DID IT HAPPEN?
A failed hard drive created an NFS problem on the NIS master server, resulting in corrupt passwd files.


WHO WAS AFFECTED?
CoC faculty and students attempting to access CoC Linux systems.


WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
No user action is required.


HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN RESOLVED?
Yes. The drive was replaced and login access has been restored to all affected systems.
