WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Some Windows users are having issues printing to the College mopier system. TSO will reboot hollister.cc to re-apply security patches to continue testing.

Affected servers:
hollister.cc.gatech.edu

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
TSO first became aware of the issue around 10am on 10/18/21. hollister.cc.gatech.edu and mopier printing will be intermittently unavailable starting at 4PM, 10/20/21.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
Working with MSA and Canon, TSO has narrowed the issue to Microsoft security patches centered around PrintNightmare. PrintNightmare is a series of vulnerabilities in the Windows OS which target the printer spooler (printing). Targeting both Desktop and Server versions of the OS, these vulnerabilities allow attackers to remotely exploit the print spooler to execute local commands. Microsoft has issued a series of patches which mitigate these security issues. However, these updates have also caused issues with the communications between desktops and servers. Additional information can be found here - Windows Print Spooler Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

WHO IS AFFECTED?
Mopier printing to hollister.cc.gatech.edu will be intermittently unavailable during the maintenance window.

This issue is impacting Windows users trying to add or re-add hollister.cc.gatech.edu, as well as some Windows users who already have the printer installed. Mac users are unaffected.
