WHAT?S HAPPENING?
TSO will upgrade all managed Windows desktop computers to Internet Explorer (IE) 8.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
IE 8 will be made available to all managed Windows desktop computers beginning at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2010.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
To enhance the security posture of managed Windows desktop computers and to comply with Banner requirements for IE. This also resolves a printing issue that has recently affected some IE 6 and IE 7 users. Affected users would receive a script error when attempting to print some web pages through IE 6 or 7 or when attempting to print some emails through Outlook on computers with IE 6 or 7.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
Users of the following:

? Faculty and staff desktop computers on the CC domain
? Research lab desktop computers on the CC domain

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
This upgrade will require a reboot following installation, so affected users should save their work, logout, and leave their desktop computers on before leaving for the day. After the patching is complete, an affected desktop computer will reboot even if a user is logged in. An onscreen notification countdown will be displayed on logged-in computers, allowing users 30 minutes to save their work before the reboot occurs.

Some websites designed for older browsers may display or work incorrectly following this upgrade. See http://support.cc.gatech.edu/support-tools/howto/enable-compatibility-view-in-internet-explorer for remediation instructions.
