WHAT’S HAPPENING?
The CoC email relays experienced a service failure starting on Dec. 19th, lasting until Dec. 30th at 1 pm.

Affected servers:
mailhost.cc.gatech.edu
deuce.cc.gatech.edu
dos.cc.gatech.edu

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
After routine patching, the service outage started on Dec. 19th and lasted until Dec. 30th at 1 pm.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
During routine maintenance, the email service on the affected servers was restarted. Upon restarting, an issue occurred, which caused the service to be unable to access certain files and fail to restart.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
All services that use the CoC email relay servers listed above.

Affected services:
Email from the following services -

  • Mailman mailing lists
  • Mopier scan & send
  • help.cc.gatech.edu and hr-help.cc.gatech.edu
  • Webform submissions for cc.gatech.edu sites

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
The permissions that caused the email service to fail to restart have been fixed, and the email cached by the client services has been processed. However, due to the prolonged nature of the outage, some of the emails generated during that time may have been purged by client services and may need to be resent.
