WHAT'S HAPPENING?
TSO now provides an authenticated SMTP service for CoC faculty and staff who have opted out of Office 365.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
The service was enabled on Friday, June 3, 2016.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
On June 2, OIT began removing Zimbra mailboxes for CoC faculty and staff who migrated to Office 365 last year.  They've been inaccessible but still present on the servers to allow continued use of the OIT SMTP servers for those who opted out of Office 365 (Office 365 has its own SMTP servers but only for those with 365 mailboxes). OIT plans for the Zimbra service to no longer be available after June 30 but advised that they would likely not have an authenticated SMTP server ready by that date, so TSO began work to setup an authenticated SMTP server so that those who opted out of Office 365 can continue to have a way to send as their gatech.edu email address(es) from their external email providers.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
This service is intended only for those CoC faculty and staff who have opted out of Office 365 and wish to send as their gatech.edu email address (those opted into Office 365 or Store and Forward should use the Office 365 SMTP settings shown at http://support.cc.gatech.edu/services/e-mail).

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Affected users should switch their SMTP settings over to use the new settings available at http://support.cc.gatech.edu/services/e-mail under the Authenticated SMTP section.  Affected users should note that while the service is available, it is considered to be in testing and is subject to change.

WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
