WHAT'S HAPPENING?
A collection of Bluetooth vulnerabilities has been announced, which can be exploited without end-user interaction. The attack has been dubbed “BlueBorne”.
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
September 12, 2017, and ongoing.
WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
Due to several vulnerabilities in the Bluetooth communication protocol, a security company devised and demonstrated a completely silent attack that can work against unpatched Android, Linux, and Windows devices. iOS devices prior to version 10 are also vulnerable. WHO IS AFFECTED?
Users of unpatched Android, Linux, and Windows devices. Users of iOS devices with iOS versions older than iOS 10.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Apply the latest security patches for your affected devices. If the September security update is not available for your Android device or if your iOS device does not support iOS 10, turning off or disabling Bluetooth is highly recommended.
