OIT has announced the following:

Planned Outage
--------------
Subject: Old Spectrum Down For Maintenance (1st Notice)

MAINTENANCE WINDOW
Friday ( 10/10/08 ) from 10:00 p.m. until Saturday ( 10/11/08 ) 10:00 p.m.

The following maintenance will be performed:
Emergency disk maintenance on Old Spectrum mail servers to prevent
system problems on other mailstores similar to those experienced on
canyon this week.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
All users of the systems listed under the Services Affected section
of this document. This encompasses approximately 4,000 faculty/staff
users. (current students have already been migrated to my.gatech.edu)

Canyon mailstore users who were affected by the system problems
experienced from Tuesday evening until Thursday morning this week
should NOT be affected by this maintenance activity. All other users
who have yet to migrate to my.gatech.edu will be affected.

The Support Center can identify users who are on the affected
mailstores. Call OIT at 404-894-7173 if you like us to confirm
that you are on the affected mailstores.

SERVICES AFFECTED:
These services will be unavailable during this outage period:
* Old Spectrum

EFFECT(S) OF DOWNTIME:
* E-mail on Old Spectrum will not be accessible by users on
affected mailstores during the times listed above
* E-mail may not be sent by users on the affected mailstores during
the times listed above
* E-mail received from others during this maintenance period will
not be lost, but will be queued and delivered after the system is
active again.

ACTIVITIES NECESSARY AFTER DOWNTIME:
* None. Old Spectrum e-mail will be available as usual after this
maintenance activity is complete. Please be aware, however, that
since incoming mail will be queued during maintenance, some
messages may take longer to be delivered after the system
is back up.
