TSO has received and investigated reports from many users who have noticed sluggish response times with their mounted network home directories on the campus Samba servers (smb.prism.gatech.edu), most notably in Linux in the CoC academic labs, during the past couple of weeks. The problem stems from DNS load balancing of network traffic to the Samba servers. OIT has been working with the vendor to find a solution to the problem. OIT has put in place a temporary fix that has relieved some of the slowness. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
