OIT has announced that they will perform SANmaintenance and replace an old UPS between 5:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2009. This will affect users of several OIT-provided services, listed below. For full details,please see the announcement below.

  WHAT IS HAPPENING?
 ------------------
 OIT will perform maintenance on one of our Storage Area
 Network (SAN) devices.  In addition, we will convert
 a number of our systems from an old uninterruptible power
  supply (UPS) system to a newly installed one.
 WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
 ---------------------
 This maintenance window is 0500 a.m. - noon on Saturday, August 8.
 WHO IS AFFECTED BY THIS INTERRUPTION?
 -------------------------------------
 The SAN maintenance will result in a four-hour outage
 for the following services during this window:
    GTRI systems hosted in Rich
    T-square (Sakai)
    Psoft/Banner test/devl systems
    Buzzport test/devl systems
    Some Information Security services
    GT Enterprise Directory changes (data will remain available;updates 
      will just be delayed) 
 The UPS conversion may result in brief interruptions to the 
 following services (in addition to the services identified above): 
    metro (OIT hosted departmental websites)
    prism
    passport 
    mage
    share-it
    kronos timecards
We do not anticipate any impact to MyGatech email.

 TECHNICAL DETAILS ABOUT THIS SCHEDULED SERVICE INTERRUPTION
 -----------------------------------------------------------
 We will be doing a firmware upgrade on the SAN which will
 require shutting down all the servers accessing storage on
 that device beforehand, and then rebooting them afterward.
 We also must convert all the computer racks in Rich 133 to
 the newly installed UPS in order to proceed with plans to
 install additional power/cooling capacity for the central 
 machine rooms.  Doing these changes before the start of the
 semester should result in more reliable service once classes
