The Help Desk will work with the supervisor to take possession of any computers, placing them in storage until they are needed again.

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • TSO published new and improved Mailman documentation. If you haven’t already logged in to see the updated tool, our guide will walk you through your first steps.
  • Georgia Tech applies a technology fee to enrolled students to fund efforts to improve the Institute’s academic and instructional capabilities. Each year, Georgia Tech solicits proposals from its units on the most appropriate ways to utilize these funds. This year, the College (with the help of Team Instruction) was awarded a record-breaking $3.4 million to fund a wide variety of initiatives, including next-gen GPUs for the HCE@CoC cluster and A/V upgrades to various student-focused meeting and classroom spaces.
  • As part of the Institute’s Computer Security Standard efforts, particular focus falls on admin passwords and accounts. To satisfy standard STND 02a-14 - “Admin permissions are separate from user permissions,” GT Cyber introduced a new tool called Admin By Request (ABR), which your friendly neighborhood Help Desk has been busy testing. ABR is a ‘Privileged Access Management’ tool, allowing users to run in a secure "standard user" mode during day-to-day work. When users need to install software or make system changes, they can request admin rights on demand for a limited time.
  • The web team launched a new, fresh look for the College home page. They also created the Staff Position Request form for the HR team and the Academic and Registration Support form for the Academic Program team.

TSO TID BITS:

As the Summer draws to a close, TSO took an afternoon for a team-building retreat at MacLeod Manor. Each team was given 7 pool noodles, 4 rolls of duct tape, and “unlimited” cardboard to construct a boat. Team captains then took turns attempting to paddle their vessels from one end of the pool to the other. Some boats were more seaworthy than others, but the team consisting of Veronique Topping, Gilbert Dominguez, KwangHo Park, and Nick Farley took first place. You can see each group’s final product in the pictures below!
