- With the USG’s renewed focus on cybersecurity, there is a specific emphasis on physical security. When an employee leaves the College, their equipment should be returned to their supervisor; this includes Graduate Research Assistants or other student workers who have been issued Georgia Tech-owned equipment. The Help Desk will work with the supervisor to take possession of any computers and place them in storage until they are needed again.

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- The Web Team launched the IC Affiliate form for the School of Interactive Computing and the Student Worker Event Assistance form for the Events team. They also dragged the Help Desk into the 21st century with a snazzy checklist web app for new computers!
- Speaking of the Help Desk, they have been working on improvements to the tools used to update Mac and Windows computers and adding Android devices to the list of managed devices. Much of this work aligns directly with the campus’s Computer Security Standard project, helping secure the Institute’s data against unauthorized intrusions.
- With the new fiscal year, we close the books on a record breaking $1.8 million in TechFee grants. The cycle begins again: Instructional Support will hear soon from the TechFee committee on the awards for this coming fiscal year.
- The Operations and Infrastructure team installed four new servers to enhance the VM infrastructure, replacing several older systems in the cluster.
- When SCS’s resident Hawaiian, Josiah Hester, approached TSO about giving a tour of our server room for a group of visiting high school students from Hawaii, we were happy to oblige. They had a great time learning about our server infrastructure from Gilbert on Team Research and even brought us treats!
TSO TID BITS:
"Ethernet connectivity lost on lab computer"
This month we received a ticket with concerns about ethernet connectivity in a new lab space. The group and their equipment had recently moved to a new area of the CODA building and were just getting set up. The Help Desk happened to be in the building, so we stopped by for a quick look. Turns out, you need to plug the ethernet cable back in to get an internet connection!
