  • Fall often sees the release of new and updated operating systems from Microsoft and Apple, and this year is no different. As mentioned above, the Help Desk will be working on updating out-of-date Windows and macOS devices to newer, supported operating systems, with the first round of Windows updates going out today.
  • TSO's Research Support team reminds the research community that small-form-factor computers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, DGX Spark, Intel NUC, and similar devices) require the same attention to security, configuration, and asset management as other research computers. Please consult TSO Research before purchasing or deploying these systems, including verifying where the operating system will be installed, as many do not include local storage. If you've already acquired one independently, please contact us for assistance with deployment and classification under Georgia Tech’s Computer Security Standard (CSS).

TSO TID BITS:

Do you know the definition of ‘sacabambaspis’? How about ‘slumgullion’ or ‘absquatulate’? In this month’s TSO morning meetings we were given a lesser-known word and team members would create their own convincing definitions. Which definition would you pick?

sacabambaspis [sa-ca-bam-bas-pis] (noun)

  1. a state of total mental emptiness masked by constant, wide-eyed surprise
  2. a legendary cocktail prepared in absolute darkness involving ingredients obtained from Greek islands, signifying the rebirth of one's groove
  3. an extinct genus of armored jawless fish that lived approximately 450 million years ago
  4. a type of jazz defined by non-standard time signatures
  5. an indoor soccer competition that takes place during Carnival, originating in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Did you get it right or were you fooled?
