TSO has developed an automated, managed load of the latest Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Long Term Support) and it is now available for labs who would like to help us beta test. Ubuntu releases a new LTS version usually every 2 years. With the Long Term Support (LTS) versions we get 3 years support on Ubuntu Desktop, and 5 years on Ubuntu Server. The new TSO managed load of Ubuntu features the following:

  • utilizes system administration best practices (directory services, host base firewall, etc.)
  • utilizes Puppet Labs open source software to automate software loads and configurations
  • can authenticate with CoC or GT credentials (your choice)
  • can restrict logins to only your research group
  • can NFS automount CoC directories (with CoC credentials option only)
  • Lab Managers can obtain root privileges

If you are interested in beta testing this TSO managed OS load, just fill out a request form on the TSO web site.
