WHAT HAPPENED?

Users attempting to login to LAWN via GTwireless login page are not able to access the login page or do so very slowly. GTwpa users are taking longer than usual to authenticate.

WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?

Beginning at approximately 12:30 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

WHY DID IT HAPPEN?

The LAWN databases reached a limit on the number of simultaneous connections. This affects users trying to login as well as background processes which add and remove rules to the LAWN firewalls.

WHO WAS AFFECTED?

All LAWN users attempting to login to GTwireless and GTwpa.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Users already authenticated are able to passtraffic to the campus and the Internet. New user logins will remainslow until a solution is found.

HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN RESOLVED?

No. OIT is actively working on a solution.

WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?

If you have questions, please contact the OIT Technology Support Centerat 404-894-7173 or the TSO Help Desk (CCB 148, 404-894-7065, helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu).

UPDATE: OIT made changes at approximately 3:30 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009, that appear to have solved the root cause of the problem. The web server and database server have performed without incident since the changes were made, and the heavy login/logout load associated with the busiest part of the day on December 2 had no impact on any LAWN systems.
